While browsing TeaMarrr’s Soundcloud, I found a hyperlink titled “Past Life.” I clicked the link out of curiosity and found myself transported to her previous Soundcloud profile. The three tracks posted on this profile sound raw, one of them consisting of just vocals and a slapping bass guitar and another one seems to be the skeleton of what eventually became TeaMarrr’s single, “In My Mind.” In contrast to these “Past Life” songs, TeaMarrr’s latest tracks sound polished and fully produced. However, one aspect of her music has remained consistent: an air of effortless confidence.
Hit play on TeaMarrr’s newest track, “I Do… But,” and her soulful presence becomes clear. The constantly evolving beat produced by Fancybeats and Rilla Force sounds sweet at first but turns intense quickly. It could be easy for a vocalist’s own sound to get lost in the bouncy production, but TeaMarrr maintains control throughout, allowing her energy to dictate what happens next. “Pause,” she playfully calls before a new wave of bleeping synths and clean drums enters the mix. “I Do… But” exists as TeaMarrr’s most lively release yet, and with an EP expected later this year, her breezy sound has room to flourish.
