For Boston native Nick Gray, three years of following his own path in music has culminated in Northside, his debut album. He caught our attention with his summer single “Juggling (For Nothin?)”, which showcased Gray’s catchy melodies and clever yet relaxed presence. On Northside, he builds on these qualities and maintains a sense of lightheartedness. But underneath that lighthearted, chilled out vibe remains an impermeable layer of positivity; Gray concentrates on following his own path and encourages listeners to do the same.
Whether he’s counting bands with fellow Bostonian Michael Christmas on “Terry Coat,” or slowing things down for a moment on the “Mirror Mirror” interlude, Gray maintains his energy throughout. There’s definitely a cohesive, bouncy sound that ties Northside into a cohesive project, yet each track shows its own side of Gray’s story—one he wants us all to be a part of.
