Review: (No One Knows Me) Like The Piano by Sampha

It’s an exciting time for talented British singer-songwriter, Sampha. Coming off releasing two soulful songs last year, “Timmy’s Prayer”, in May and “Blood On Me”, in August, off of his upcoming album Process. Although Process will be Sampha’s debut album, his name and voice should definitely ring familiar having shared songs with the likes of Kanye West, Drake, and more recently, Beyonce’s sister, Solange. His unique voice croons on hooks delivering a somber sentiment on their songs. Sampha details his idiosyncratic voice in a 2013 interview with VIBE, saying that it simply comes naturally.

Yesterday he gives us another dose of his distinct voice on his latest release, heartfelt song, “(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano”. Just before the release, Sampha takes to Twitter and uploads a nearly minute long raw cut of himself playing the piano and singing. He then adds some context behind the song prior to its release in a tweet; “this song is dedicated to my mother Binty Sisay. The more time that passes, the more I see the extent of her love for me.” The beautiful song, an ode to his mother as it turns out, shows just how soul moving his voice can be, not to mention the perfectly arranged chords he plays on his piano. Each note striking at enthralling emotions. Once again, Sampha displays to us again the talent he harbors through music and lyric. He adds to the anticipation of his album debut, slated for a release of Feb. 3rd. For now we wait, but you can check out “(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano” here
