Two of Chicagoland’s most promising up-and-coming lyricists have teamed up to drop some collective knowledge. On “Home Tree,” Evanston’s Kweku Collins links with Femdot to spit some solemn, brooding bars. Collins’ verses showcase loosely structured flows drowned in auto-tune, as he faces the obstacles standing in his way on the road to success. Femdot’s conviction cuts through with razor-sharp precision, demonstrating once again his talent for shedding light on the bleakest of moments he’s experienced first-hand. Together, these two artists (who are now both members of Chicago’s blossoming Closed Sessions label) set themselves apart as voices that can’t be ignored in Chicago’s crowded hip-hop scene.
