Last month, I got made alert to Glassic’s remix skills on his rendition of SZA’s “Love Galore,” and now, he’s unleashed yet another rework. On “LO FYE mix vol. 1,” the Chicago producer gives his take on some of the most memorable hip-hop tracks from the past 10 years or so. With cuts ranging from Gambino’s “Because The Internet” album to Chicago legend Lupe Fiasco’s “Kick Push,” Glassic warps these distinct tracks into hyper-distorted lo-fi land. My personal favorite moment on this mix is when he takes on Kanye’s Dropout-era banger, “Get ‘Em High.” Ye, Talib Kwelli and Common’s emphatic flows take on a whole new vibe under Glassic’s guidance, backed by steady knocking drums and hypnotizing guitar samples.
