Blake Saint David consistently releases mature and well-developed songs…which is rare. Their latest, “Don’t Come Back,” discusses what loneliness means to Blake. During a brief chat, they told me “I also have a really irrational fear of being left behind.” In the verses, the steady and uniform drum patch behind Blake’s upbeat vocals shine light onto this fear. It’s as if there’s an unknown in-reach for Blake.
What stands out the most to me in this track is actually the instrumental outro. Contrasting with the breezy ambience in the beginning of the piece, Blake leaves us with a groovy melody, highlighting their artistic prowess and musical ear. We’re really excited for what else they can conjure up in the future. One thing’s for sure: Blake’s moving fast.
