NPR’s popular Tiny Desk Concert returns-this time featuring Chicago native and rising star Saba. The series offers artists an opportunity to perform their tracks at the NPR Washington D.C. Headquarters with a live band in cramped quarters. For Saba, this gives his music an intimate personal feeling for his lyrics to resonate and his smile to spread across the room. Saba performs tracks from his April Sophomore album Care For Me, beginning with a soulful rendition of “Busy Day/Sirens”. He introduces his band members which include artists that worked directly on Care For Me, including his own father Chandlar providing backup vocals. The performance highlights the contrast of the warm melodies and instrumentals with Saba’s harsh lyrics and emotional range on everything from police brutality, to his own cousin’s murder. It’s a memorable performance and by the end of the concert, you’ll be a Saba fan.
